What to Wear to a Modeling Casting (and What to Leave at Home)

At a casting, the team wants to see you: your face, your shape and how you move. The right outfit gets out of the way. Here's what to wear, what to skip and what to bring.

The outfit that works every time

• Top: a fitted black or white tank top or T-shirt
• Bottoms: fitted jeans, or a simple fitted skirt or shorts
• Shoes: heels you can actually walk in, or bring them in your bag
• Makeup: natural. Clean skin, a little mascara, nothing heavy
• Hair: clean and down, unless you're asked to pull it back

Leave these at home

• Logos and big prints. They pull the eye away from you
• Baggy clothes. The team needs to see your shape
• Heavy makeup and false lashes. They hide your real face
• Lots of jewelry. Keep it to small studs at most

What to bring

• ID: a government ID. You must be 18 or older
• Your phone: with a few clear, recent photos of you
• Heels: if you wore flats in
• A smile: casting teams remember the girl who was easy to work with
