From the Con Floor to the Booth: How Cosplayers Get Paid at Comic-Con

Exhibitors at comic, anime and fan conventions book booth models, brand ambassadors and character hosts, and many are cosplayers. The jobs, the convention rules, what it pays at Rockstarr Media, and how to get booked (18+).

Walk the exhibit hall at any big con and look at the booths with the longest lines. A lot of them have the same thing in common: talent out front in costume, handing out the swag, running the photo line and keeping the crowd happy. Exhibitors book that talent, and many of the people they book are cosplayers. ## The jobs - Booth model: draws fans to the booth, poses for photos and represents the brand. - Brand ambassador: hands out swag, runs sign-ups and demos, and answers questions about the product. - Character host: appears as a brand's character, or an original one, for meet-and-greets. - Photo-line and line staff: keeps long lines moving and fans smiling. - On-camera host: films booth content and live streams for the brand's channels. ## How the work actually runs Conventions have rules, and booth talent works inside them. At San Diego Comic-Con, handouts and promotional items may only be given out from within a booth in the exhibit hall, and exhibitor badges go only to confirmed booth participants. At Anime Central, every exhibitor activity has to stay inside the booth so the aisles stay clear. Prop rules apply to booth staff as well: FAN EXPO HQ says its props policy covers attendees, exhibitors and staff alike, and New York Comic Con can approve an exception case by case for an exhibitor or sponsor promotion. A good agency handles all of that before you ever put the costume on. ## Why this is different from posing for tips Many cons ask hobby cosplayers not to charge for photos. Dragon Con, for example, asks cosplayers to give freely when people want pictures. Booth work is different: you are booked and paid by the exhibitor to work their booth, through an agency, for agreed hours. Brand ambassadors with Rockstarr Media have earned up to $75 an hour on select bookings. ## The shows are big Anime Expo reported turnstile attendance of more than 422,000 fans from over 65 countries in 2026. WonderCon's exhibit hall holds more than 900 exhibitors. FAN EXPO HQ puts MEGACON Orlando at 195,000+ fans and FAN EXPO Dallas at 65,000+. Every one of those exhibitors needs people out front. ## Coming up San Diego Comic-Con opens badge registration to everyone on Saturday, November 14, 2026, for the July 22-25, 2027 show.
