How to Film a Hosting Audition on Your Phone: The 60 Seconds That Get You Noticed

Your whole audition is 60 seconds, filmed on the phone already in your hand. You don't need a studio, a ring light or an agent. You need a window, a quiet room and the confidence your friends already know you have.

What to say (the JET SETTERS audition)

• First: open the show. "Hi, I'm (your name), and welcome to JET SETTERS."
• Then: tell us the one place in the world you'd love to fly to, and why, the way you'd tell a friend
• Last: finish with the city you live in, and confirm you're 18 or older

Set up in two minutes

• Light: face a window. Daylight on your face beats any ring light
• Phone: at eye level, on a stack of books or a tripod
• Distance: chest up, a little space above your head
• Background: simple and tidy
• Filters: none. We want the real you

Sound good

• Room: the quietest one you have. Soft rooms (bedroom, closet) beat echoey ones (bathroom, kitchen)
• Distance: stay close to the phone
• Noise: TV off, fan off, phone on Do Not Disturb

Mistakes that get tapes skipped

• Reading off a script: talk, don't recite
• Looking at yourself on the screen: look into the lens
• Going long: 60 seconds is the whole thing
• Too much: one take, natural energy, done

Before you send it

• Watch it back once
• Fix one thing and film it again
• Then send it. The second take is usually the one
