Heat is a staffing issue
Phoenix takes summer heat seriously enough that the city runs an Office of Heat Response and Mitigation and seasonal heat relief sites. For outdoor activations in the warm months we plan shade, water, shorter rotations and breathable uniforms, and we recommend scheduling outdoor work early or late in the day. Indoor programs at the convention center carry on through summer.
Winter and spring are peak season
Visit Phoenix markets the region as a winter destination with close to 300 days of sunshine a year, and the calendar follows: the WM Phoenix Open in February and Cactus League games from late February through March. Demand for experienced staff climbs with it, so lock in winter and spring dates early.
A wide Valley
The Cactus League's 10 ballparks are spread across Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale, Glendale, Goodyear, Peoria and Surprise. A Surprise Stadium activation and a Sloan Park one in Mesa sit on opposite sides of the metro, so we assign staff who live near each venue rather than sending one crew across the Valley.
Downtown by rail
Valley Metro Rail serves the Phoenix Convention Center and connects to the PHX Sky Train for Sky Harbor, which Visit Phoenix puts about ten minutes from downtown. Convention center parking can be reserved ahead through ParkPHX, which is worth doing for multi-day shows or nights when a Suns or Diamondbacks game is also in town.
