Use the skyway in winter
Meet Minneapolis calls the downtown skyway the largest contiguous system of enclosed, second-level bridges. In January, when the Auto Show is at the Convention Center, it is the best way for staff to move between hotels, parking and a venue without changing in and out of winter gear. Plan staff entrances and coat storage along with the booth.
Two downtowns, one metro
Many programs split between Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Grand Casino Arena, the former Xcel Energy Center, is home to the Minnesota Wild, and its RiverCentre and Kellogg parking ramps connect directly to the arena complex. We assign staff by which downtown they live closer to, which keeps call times reliable when events in both cities fall on the same night.
State Fair stamina
The Minnesota State Fair runs for twelve days, ending on Labor Day, at the fairgrounds in Falcon Heights between the two downtowns. Activations there mean long days outdoors in late-summer heat, a lot of walking and very large crowds. We schedule shifts and breaks to match, and we keep backup staff available for the busiest weekend days.
Marathon weekend is moving
Twin Cities Marathon Weekend, which runs from Minneapolis to Saint Paul and includes an expo, has been held in early October. The organizers have announced that starting in 2027 it moves to a mid-October schedule. If your fall plans include an expo booth or course activation, check the new dates before you lock in staff.
