Use the skywalk network
About 4,700 hotel rooms connect to the Indiana Convention Center by skywalk, out of roughly 7,100 downtown. For hotel-to-hall sampling or lobby greeters, plan your staff positions around skywalk entrances, where attendee traffic is heaviest on show mornings and at the lunch break.
May belongs to the Speedway
The Indianapolis 500 and the Sonsio Grand Prix make May the busiest stretch of the year. Hotels fill early, roads around Speedway back up, and race weekend tends to collide with corporate events downtown. If you plan to activate during race month, book staff well ahead of time.
A new convention hotel is coming
The Indiana Convention Center is in the middle of an expansion. The Signia by Hilton Indianapolis is taking reservations for stays from February 2027, and the new West Georgia Street outdoor event space gives planners an open-air option next to the halls. Shows booked for 2027 and later should account for the added space.
The fairgrounds work all year
The Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center on East 38th Street hosts expos, consumer shows and livestock events well beyond the fair. It sits about five miles north of downtown, so plan parking and arrival times separately from any convention center booking.
